KRAV MAGA by KRAV CORE Basel

In KRAV MAGA training, effective combat techniques are combined with an intense workout, and no prior experience is required.

KRAV MAGA, which is Hebrew for “contact combat,” is an easily learned self-defense system based on natural and instinctive reactions.

Tactical response under stress and the consideration of legal frameworks are central aspects of the training, as well as the early detection and avoidance of dangers.

The primary focus is on quick escape from conflicts, with simple yet effective close-combat techniques taught for situations where an attack occurs.

The training covers various distances, including both standing and ground combat, preparing participants to defend against one or multiple aggressors.

Additional key areas include stress management, effective striking and kicking techniques, defense against the most common attacks, and functional fitness training to strengthen the body and increase endurance.

Here you can find our team of trainers.

You can start training with us at any time. We offer two free trial sessions in our regular classes, giving you the opportunity to experience our training firsthand and find out whether it is right for you.

Start now and become part of our community!
There’s no better time than now to begin your training. Simply sign up for your trial session and see how quickly you can progress and become part of our motivated community!

You can join our regular classes at any time, whether you already have experience in martial arts or are starting completely from scratch.

Our instructors will help you settle in quickly and make sure you feel comfortable and supported from the very beginning.

Most of our members train with us regularly over a longer period of time. Self-defense is not a skill that can be learned over a single weekend. It is developed step by step through consistent training.

You do not need to be fit to start training with us.

People with very different fitness levels and backgrounds train together in our classes. Some are highly athletic and train intensely, while others are returning to exercise after many years of inactivity.

What matters is not how fit you are today, but that you show up and participate according to your abilities. Nobody is pressured or forced to do anything. Everyone trains at their own pace and according to their personal goals.

You will find training partners ranging from highly ambitious athletes to people who prefer a more relaxed approach. This allows everyone to find a suitable training environment.

No.

There is no age limit for our training. People of different ages and physical abilities train together with us.

Some train intensively and pursue ambitious goals, while others simply want to improve their personal safety, mobility, or overall well-being. Everyone trains according to their own abilities and objectives.

What matters is not your age, but your willingness to train regularly and continue developing yourself.

That depends on the nature and severity of the injury or limitation.

Many exercises can be modified or skipped if necessary. Some of our members successfully train despite minor or significant physical limitations.

If you are unsure, we recommend consulting your doctor beforehand.

Alternatively, you can simply attend a trial session and discuss your situation with our instructors to find out what is suitable and possible for you.

No.

Self-defense begins long before a physical confrontation occurs. That is why our training covers much more than techniques. We also focus on topics such as:

  • Threat awareness
  • Understanding offender behavior
  • Communication and de-escalation
  • Setting boundaries
  • Confident body language and presence
  • Decision-making under stress

Our goal is to provide you with as many tools as possible to recognize, avoid, or de-escalate conflicts at an early stage. Physical self-defense is an important component, but it is only one part of the bigger picture.

Yes. We regularly include controlled and carefully structured sparring in our training. Sparring helps students apply techniques under pressure, manage stress, and develop confidence in their abilities. Safety is always our highest priority. The goal is not to hurt each other but to gain realistic experience in a controlled environment.

No.

Nobody is forced to spar or engage in combat drills.

You decide how intensely you want to train. Our goal is not to create winners and losers, but to help people become more confident, capable, and prepared.

No.

We deliberately do not use belts, grading systems, or similar ranking structures.

Our focus is on practical skills, personal development, and consistent training. What matters most to us is that you become safer, more confident, and more capable in everyday life, not that you achieve a particular rank or title.

No.

We do not offer separate women’s classes. All of our training is conducted in mixed groups.

However, during training situations involving close physical contact, such as clinch work, holds, or ground fighting, we can ensure that women train exclusively with other women if they prefer. We are happy to accommodate such requests whenever possible.

In fact, we previously offered a women-only class. However, most participants voluntarily transitioned into the mixed classes after only a few sessions because they wanted to learn how to deal with male training partners and develop their skills under more realistic conditions.

Our priority is that every participant feels safe and comfortable. Whenever possible, we take personal preferences regarding training partners into account.

No.

You are free to choose when and where you train.

Please register for each training session through our Eversports booking system before attending. The only exception is KRAV KIDS classes.

For training, you will need:

  • Sports clothing
  • Clean indoor sports shoes
  • Water or other drinks

For KRAV TEENS and KRAV MAGA training, the following protective equipment is also required:

  • Mouthguard
  • Boxing gloves
  • Groin protection (for men)

You can purchase the equipment directly from us or obtain it elsewhere. We are happy to advise you on suitable equipment during training.

Yes.

If you have a valid KulturLegi card, please send us a scan or photo by email. We will then set up your membership with a 30% discount.

Yes, absolutely.

Many people begin training because they have had difficult experiences and want to regain a sense of safety, confidence, and personal empowerment.

It is helpful if you briefly inform your instructor before training. You do not need to share any details.

Some exercises or situations may trigger difficult memories. Knowing about your situation allows us to support you as effectively as possible.

Yes. Many children join our program for exactly that reason.

Our goal is not to teach children to fight or solve problems through violence. Instead, we focus on developing important life skills such as:

  • Self-confidence
  • Self-assurance
  • Body language
  • Setting boundaries
  • Conflict management
  • Respectful interaction with others

In many cases, a child’s presence and confidence improve significantly long before physical self-defense becomes necessary.

Yes.

Many children and teenagers join our programs because they want to build confidence.

Nobody needs to be loud, athletic, or naturally outgoing to participate. Our training provides a safe and supportive environment where children and teenagers can gradually develop confidence, learn to express themselves, and set healthy boundaries.

During official school holidays in the Canton of Basel-Stadt, there is no guaranteed entitlement to KRAV KIDS and KRAV TEENS classes. However, we almost always offer at least one KRAV KIDS and one KRAV TEENS class per week.

KRAV MAGA classes for participants aged 16 and older continue during holiday periods, although the schedule may be reduced.

KRAV CORE is the international organization and professional association we are affiliated with.

The organization develops instructor education programs, training standards, teaching methods, and training concepts, helping ensure a consistent level of quality across all affiliated schools.

KRAV MAGA refers to the self-defense system we teach. KRAV CORE is the organization that provides the framework, instructor education, and quality assurance behind that system.

As a KRAV CORE school, we benefit from modern training methods, a structured educational framework, and an international network of schools and instructors.
